Save Your Marriage Even If You Are Ready To Get Divorced

If you have already filed for a divorce you may think that nothing will be able to repair your marriage. You and your spouse are likely separated and living in different households. You children will be getting used to a strange and new way of life, and while you may think that you are happy you know that deep down you want to try and make it work. You may stay up at night thinking of questions like, “What can I do to save my marriage?” After coming up empty handed again, you probably ended up giving up on the idea. Chances are, your spouse wants to try to make it work, too. Since you are both being stubborn, one of you will need to suggest marriage counseling first. If you can come up with the right plan you may be able to save your marriage before avoid going to court.

Getting a divorce will bring out the worst in you and your spouse. Trying to break apart a household that has been unified for years is just not possible without a lot of pain. Instead of spending your days on the phone with your lawyer, you can work to make things right with your husband or wife. Don’t get your children involved, but you can listen to what they have to say about your marriage problems if they are openly having a conversation with their siblings. Use whatever information you can gather to come up with a reason to speak to your spouse civilly. If you can sit down and each lunch together without going at it, you are already on your way to getting back together again. Ask for a postponement of your court proceedings and see if your spouse will be willing to go to a marriage counselor.
